A Level Success for Class of 2024

For many students, this marked the end of their unforgettable seven-year journey, as they congratulated each other on securing outstanding destinations. Students this year have secured the grades they needed to study degree courses including International Relations and Law at leading universities across the country, take up roles within industry including in the education sector, and accept places on competitive apprenticeships with companies such as MIRA. Everyone at The Hinckley Sixth Form is incredibly proud of what these inspirational young people have achieved and know that this is just the beginning of the bright future they have begun to build

One student who has truly embodied the sixth form’s PRIDE values is Sofiia, who left Ukraine in 2022 to come to the UK, joining the sixth form in Year 12. Now graduating as part of the Class of 2024 having achieved an astounding four A*s in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology and Extended Project Qualification, Sofiia can now proudly follow her dreams by studying Politics with International Relations at The University of York. Sofiia has always had an interest in current affairs and international relations, with the conflict in Ukraine and her move to the UK further reinforcing her desire to have her say and to “make an impact on the future by playing a part in helping to develop conversations between countries.” Sofiia explained how the sixth form team made her feel supported, settled and at home right from the start, treating her like any other student, but always checking in on her wellbeing. Looking ahead, Sofiia sees her future in the UK and said, “I am very excited for my new chapter and to turn over a new leaf, but I am keen to keep in touch with the team here as I have built really strong and supportive working relationships with them.” Sofiia’s success is not just inspirational, but a true testament to her resilience, discipline and determination.

Fellow student Olivia also dreams of making a difference by working for the United Nations, in human rights and politics, a dream which is now closer than ever having now achieved the grades required to study Politics, Policy and Economics at her first-choice university. Olivia shared how her grades, which included 1 A* and 2 As exceeded her expectations and how she has mixed emotions about leaving The Hinckley Sixth Form, “I’ve been here for seven years, so it feels strange now my time here is over. I will miss my teachers as I have got to know them really well. This school has been such a big part of my life, I will miss it.” Olivia has been a positive role model for younger students, proudly representing the school as ‘Head Student’, working alongside staff to shape the sixth form community, run charity events and even create the Class of 2024 Year Book, all as part of the Student Leadership Team. Fondly remembering this role as one of the many highlights during her time at The Hinckley School and Sixth Form, helping her to gain new skills in leadership and teamwork. Joining Olivia at The University of Birmingham is friend Trescha, who worked hard to achieve an impressive 3 As in Physics, Maths and Psychology and is now preparing to study for a degree in Law. Also coming to the end of her seven-year journey, Trescha leaves with unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships. She shared how the continuity she benefitted from between GCSE and A Level made the transition to sixth form easier and she will miss seeing her friends and teachers every day.

Micky is now following his passion for exploring the universe and desire to help people by accepting a place to study Physics at The University of Nottingham. Micky said that leaving will be “a big change, having walked the corridors for seven years” and is a combination of excited and nervous, noting how he has benefitted from the sixth form’s dedication to continually improving for their students.

Eve celebrated the culmination of her seven-year journey with friends on results day as she prepares to study English Literature with Media at Newcastle University. Having worked hard to achieve 3 As and 1 A*, Eve described herself as ‘very relieved’ after opening her results. Over her seven years, Eve has enjoyed some unforgettable and enriching experiences, including a Netball tour to Malta and travelling to New York with her Media class, an experience which further inspired her to continue the subject at degree level. Aspiring to build a career in Music Journalism, Eve shared how appreciative she was of the help and support provided by her A Level teachers.

Accepting places at their first choices universities are Sociology classmates Beatrice and Hermione. Beatrice achieved 3 A*s in Psychology, Sociology and Media and is now looking forward to studying a four-year course, including a masters in Midwifery with Public Health at Birmingham City. Meanwhile, Hermione described herself as “shocked, relieved and proud” after achieving the 1 A* and 2 As required for her to study English Literature at the University of Liverpool following a gap year. Hermione thanked the support from her English teachers over the past seven years and shared how thankful she was for the opportunities she had been given in sixth form. 

Two students who were supported to follow alternative routes as they chased their dreams were Leo and Amber. Following an intensive interview process and psychometric tests, Amber has successfully secured an Apprenticeship with MIRA and is looking forward to starting her career in Automotive Engineering by working in their Prototype Department. Meanwhile, Leo has secured the grades required to apply for an Army Officers Degree at Sandhurst, a dream he has aspired to chase for four years in order to make a difference and travel the world. Leo said, “What stands out about my sixth form experience is the support from teachers, I felt like they really cared about my academic success and mental wellbeing.”

  

After celebrating and supporting students on results day, Director of Sixth Form Vicky Bull said, “Everyone at The Hinckley Sixth Form is incredibly proud of the achievements of the Class of 2024. Our students have once again achieved the grades required to start their next exciting chapters at leading universities, in industry or on competitive apprenticeships, as they continue to build their brighter futures. Many of our students leave us after enjoying an unforgettable seven-year journey, where we have had the privilege of watching them grow and flourish into the inspirational young adults we see today. We would like to thank them all for their hard work and incredible memories and wish them all the very best of luck for the future.”
